Iris Apfel: Rare Bird of Fashion

iris-apfel-portrait_bruce-weber_

I am dying to see the “Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel” exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.  The museum has gathered more than 80 ensembles from the Park Avenue closet of the legendary tastemaker—just look at the sneak peek below!  Apfel, who is now 88 years old, is known for her mix of high end with low end.  The pieces on display range from haute couture purchased in Paris to $5 flea market finds.  I envy her fearless mix and simply adore her trademark oversized frames.  If you’re in or around the Boston area be sure to swing by Salem and help celebrate the creative vision of this fashion icon.  I’m going to try and talk John into it on our drive home!
