Chapel of Love
January 27, 2010
How sweet is this little shingled chapel with its bright red door? I stumbled upon it during an online search for wedding locations in Maine and am quite taken with the photos. John’s a Mainer and we’ve tossed around the idea of getting hitched among the moose and blueberries. Perhaps we should voyage up the coast to scope out this charming little spot… I so value your opinions, what do you think???
P.S. Another cute and casual dress option, this time by Chloe… Wouldn’t an eyelet sundress be fun in this woodsy-by-the-sea location?
UPDATE: I just found the image below by Emilie Inc. of a wedding held at the very same teeny chapel last summer—I’M IN LOVE!!!

I love it! Although I must admit a partiality to woodsy-by-the-sea on the whole.

How lovely!! What a beautiful wedding that would be, and what a beautiful wedding it is for that couple in the bottom picture!
Personally, I’m smitten, and the Maine connection with John is just another bonus :) I would definitely check it out! -
In a way, it reminds me of the little chapel that JFK, Jr. got married in. (The same weekend my husband and I got married). Always thought their wedding seemed quite romantic; sweet and sophisticated all at once. That chapel in Maine seems to hold the same nostalgic charm. It’s really such a lovely time in your life, to be planning a wedding…magical!

One word: Perfect.
-
Do it! Maine is so lovely in the summer time, and this chapel is adorable!

So sweet, especially in summer. (Pack bug spray!) I love the window boxes — what a fabulous and unusual touch.

A New England wedding would be divine!

There’s an incredibly beautiful little stone church in Winfield, ME one of the oldest in New England, with the original shaker style divided pews inside, and tell John that Sr. Juanita lives in the attached rectory!
-
That would be such a beautiful place to get married!
-
How incredibly charming! I love it! The JFK Jr. & Carolyn wedding popped in to my mind immediately too and I always loved those photos!
-
Very cute and would not even be as enticing without the aged shingles and that love red door!
Thanks for sharing,

I’ve dreamed of getting married in Maine since I was a girl and saw Marina Rust’s wedding feature in Vogue. It was a simply chic Main wedding, and this chapel reminds me so much of the understated elegance. I absolutely LOVE it!
And as a new reader – congratulations on your engagement!

Ah! Adorable. So picturesque. I imagine one would have the most lovely and intimate ceremony there.

This place looks amazing-I love it! To second Brooke’s comment- you will be such a beautiful bride Miss Kate!!
-
oh, kate! this is ADORABLE. i’m up to my ears in designing wedding invitation samples and i’ve been working on a chapel inspired one–and this puts me right over the edge. . . you MUST at least go look at it!!!!

My parents eloped to a little chapel almost exactly the size of this one. I say do it. I still go back there and just feel the love they had for each other.
-
Can it GET any more charming than THIS?!

There’s actually a magazine dedicated specifically to weddings in Maine. Would you like a copy? I was looking through it last night at the grocery store.

I have that song stuck in my head now. You know, “Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get ma-a-arried”. That’s what being in the choir in high school does to you. This is such a sweet looking place. I’d love to see the inside and find out how the light dances around in there. It might just be a perfect wedding site. I think when you find the site you want to get married at, you’ll know. Your heart will flutter and dance a bit more than it usually does.

I didn’t mean to put a question mark!!!! AHK. Of course it will be peaceful, warm, and lovely!
I hadn’t had my morning tea LOL.

I personally am drawn to anything A) old-timey looking (that’s a technical term by the way) and B) with a red door, I have a serious thing for red doors.
It’s amazing, go for it!
