Right now I’m wishing I were in Paris to see this “Fables” exhibition by Karen Knorr in collaboration with Deyrolle.  Animals from the famous taxidermy collection were placed throughout the palaces of France and the result is magical.

UPDATE: Many of the animals, including the giraffe, are alive!  Karen stopped by and left this wonderful comment: “The giraffe is alive and well at the London Zoo!  Yes the foxes are taxidermised But most of my animals are shot in Sanctuaries and Zoos. Taxidermy is truly an art form at its best it transcends the trophy and now unfortunately with the disappearance of so many species it becomes a permanent trace.”  Thank you for clarifying Karen—my readers and I are such fans of your work!

Why are tickets to Paris so expensive? I just love these. I could imagine a little story around each, and maybe even one woven around all of them.

I can’t say I was a fan when I first saw the pics on http://bardotinblue.com/.

Seeing the giraffe has changed my mind. The giraffe is totally IT!

When my son was born we did his nursery in a Victorian Safari/World Traveler theme. Anyone who has seen pictures of William Randolf Hearst “camping” will get an idea of what we were going for. Anyway, the picture of the giraffe would have been just PERFECT. Alas, he’s (almost) 4 now and has moved on to Thomas The Tank Engine.

Le Sigh, that’s a tough theme to work with…

  22. Wow, what a whimsical and fanciful collection. I wish I would have known about it sooner, as I was in Paris last month. But then again, we were there so briefly there was just enough time to enjoy a couple of great meals.

Can you imagine being part of the photo shoot involving the (live) giraffe? What an experience that must have been!

  23. I’d love to go…amazing!!!
