The newly redone Partners & Spade website has an impressive archive of old Kate Spade advertisements.  The top two are from the campaign shot by Tierney Gearon and the last three were shot by Larry Sultan (my personal favorites)!  As much as I LOVE Kate Spade today, I do miss the sophisticated, intelligent edge the brand had when the Spades were still involved.  It always had such a cool, editorial vibe to it.  Needless to say, I’ll always be a fan.

Just because…  Sometimes we need a little sunshine.  Oh Italy, how I miss thee!

A worthy cause.

Picture 19Today I’m lusting after these colorful woven journals from the Guatemalan Weaving School and this chic straw tote woven by women in Morocco.  Not only are they gorgeous, but they also help a good cause.  Funded by Nest, a group that provides interest-free loans to artisans in developing countries, the craft-based businesses pay back their loans in merchandise which is in turn sold online to people like you and me.  When we buy from Nest we’re helping fund the next cycle of artisans in places like Tanzania, Mexico and Peru.  Buy up ladies!

The new J.Crew catalog features nine everyday women (”friends, associates, and acquaintances”) with inspiring style and enviable wardrobes.  I’m loving these three shots in particular.  At top is Molly Carey, a designer for J.Crew.  Isn’t she gorgeous???  Love the hair, love the lipstick, love the necklace…sigh.  Second, is talented interior designer Celerie Kemble and last, but not least is Lily Koppel, darling author of the seemingly wonderful The Red Leather Diary. If her book is half as cute as she is I simply must read it!

I want a cockatiel…

julianne-moore-bvlgari-summer-2010-ad-campaign-large_2

I keep coming back to the fantastic Bulgari summer 2010 ad campaign staring Julianne Moore and two bright cockatiels.  Was anyone else mesmerized?  The shoot took place at Tony Duquette’s Dawndridge house in Beverly Hills and was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.  Sure, those 115 carat emerald teardrops are stunning, but what I really want is that pair of cockatiels!  I can see them now, perched in a big, exotic brass cage in my living room.  Now that would be a sight to see…

The darling Kate over at Pretty Young Things posted about a new vintage-style Anthropologie swim suit and I just about died.  A quick tour of the site brought me to these three personal favorites.  Ruffles, polka dots and high waists—I’m in LOVE!!!  What do you think, would you have the guts to sport one of these darling retro suits to the pool this summer?  They’re so darn cute, I think I’d have the courage.  Move over Betty Draper, here we come!

I don’t know about you, but I’m positively ecstatic Rubie Green is tip toeing into the world of fashion.  Their newly revealed Ellie Bag is made from my favorite “East Village” print and has a simple, super cute clutch shape.  Did I mention it’s only $24?  You know you want to go eco-chic…

I just came across these images and had to post pronto.  How fantastic are the hair pieces?  And the mustard coat?  And the lip color—don’t even get me started on the lip color!  I’m a bit obsessed with the first image.  I kind of want to frame it as a print, what do you think?  Shop the “Love, Tava” collection here.

Missoni by Teller

Missoni-1

I finally got around to flipping through some of my March fashion glossies last night and am in love with the new Missoni campaign shot by Juergen Teller in Bazaar.  It’s just so casual and unpretentious which I personally find wonderfully refreshing.  Three generations of the Missoni family were present for the shoot which took place at the Margherita’s grandparents’ home in Sumirago, Italy (twenty minutes north of Milan).  Looking at the photos you feel as though they’ve invited you over for lunch—looks delish to me.

I’m loving the return of the one-piece suit thanks to J.Crew.  They remind me of sunny days on the beach during childhood, only far more grown-up and chic!  I think the seersucker at top and sailor stripes at bottom are my favorites…yours?

I am loving this J.Crew model’s perfectly messy updo.  I so wish I could french braid, but I’m a total klutz.  Perhaps I just need more practice.  Any french braiding tips?  I’ve been growing out my bob these past few months and seriously need to master this look before spring rolls around.

P.S. Cute outfit, right?

The new Spring 2010 Kate Spade collection is absolute bananas.  I’m quite certain I need that black and white polka dot cocktail number.  Can you say perfection?

Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

This morning I’d like to share with you some charming photographs of Jackie Kennedy and her sister, Lee Radziwill, touring India and Pakistan in 1962. Jackie’s wardrobe was a focal point as she sought to choose colors and fabrics that would compliment her host countries.  It is estimated she wore 22 outfits on the trip—one day in New Delhi she changed five times! There were, of course, underlying political motives to the visit (America was wary of Soviet interest in India as the cold war waged), but the ladies would have us believe their trip was pure pleasure.  Everywhere they went the crowds chanted “Hail Jackie!” and referred to her as the “Queen of America.”  It was written she created “a visual metaphor for the youthful new face of America: one that was cultured, sophisticated, and stylish.”  Stylish indeed!  Now who wants to go to India with me?

Above, Jackie at the Taj Majal.  She visited twice, once during the day and later by moonlight.

“It’s been a dream” Jackie said of her trip.  If you like these images you’ll love the book Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad containing watercolors of Jackie’s travels throughout India, Pakistan, Paris, London and Rome.  It’s now out of print, but used copies are fairly easy to find.  Hope you’ve enjoyed the photos!
