I joked on twitter this afternoon that until I can move permanently to Paris I’ll simply follow a million Parisian instagram accounts. Well, I was thrilled when my friend Nichole responded introducing me to her new project, The Paris Journal. I immediately downloaded it on my trusty iPad mini and was whisked away to the the winding streets of Montmartre. The digital book “combines fine art photography and minimalist video into visual stories of Paris neighborhoods.” Living vicariously just got a whole lot more fun…

And speaking of Parisian instagram accounts, a few favorites: parisinfourmonths, colettestore, jasminetartine, willsheloveparis, makingmagique, alixcherry… Do you follow any Parisians I should know about…?

“My apartment is pretty calm and restrained. I like a clean white backdrop set off by masses and masses of pink peonies.” -Sofia Coppola

Yesterday I danced the night away to Phoenix at the Apollo theater and it got me thinking – just how cool are Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars? The couple’s old Nolita apartment above is pretty much perfection. They’ve since moved to the West Village, but I think this light-filled loft would suit me just fine. In her House & Garden feature (top image) Sofia noted, “I like to live with an uncluttered backdrop, to keep the focus on art.” A rather smart move when you’ve been collecting the likes of Elizabeth Peyton, Hemlut Newton, and William Klein since your teens. A girl can dream…

I’m dying to see the Simone Shubuck exhibit at the Taylor De Cordoba gallery in Los Angeles. The solo show is the first by the New York-based artist in six years and is charmingly titled, “Do You Like Old Things or New Things That Look Old?” (a question she overheard being posed by a teenage boy). A former floral designer, Shubuck’s work is packed with natural inspiration and her vibrant pencil, paint, and crayon strokes certainly do it justice. File under: things I’d like on my walls.

Exhibit open from April 27 – June 1, 2013.

Remember my hysterical Grandma Rita? I came across this vintage photo of her yesterday among my treasures and had to share. Such chic shades! I’m flying home to California in a week and can’t wait to see her and the rest of my equally entertaining family. We’ll spend a day in Santa Barbara with my older brother, shoot a little Matchbook story, clock some hours at the beach, and enjoy al fresco dinners with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and bottomless glasses of local Edna Valley wine. I may even join my dad on the tennis court (most comical as I haven’t picked up a racket in years…). Counting down the days!
