This 1958 Richard Avedon photograph of Elizabeth Taylor is absolutely captivating. I love that she’s simply styled without gems or distractions. She really was devastatingly beautiful—just look at those almond eyes!

There’s something riveting about these contact sheets from Richard Avedon’s photo session with the Kennedy family. Taken on January 3, 1961 in Palm Beach, Florida, the images were a portrait assignment commissioned by Harper’s Bazaar. The out takes are in fact my favorite shots—Jack blinking with that big grin of his. You feel as though you’re getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Camelot. As intrigued as I am? A full book is available here.

Yesterday I came home to the most beautiful gift in the mail. The darling Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic had sent me the book above, Dreaming in French by Megan McAndrew. I’ve only read the first twenty-or-so pages and find myself utterly enthralled! The novel tells the story of a “superficially glamorous” expatriate family in late 1970s Paris. The mother is this fantastically eccentric, stylish character from Kentucky and I’ve already grown to love her. I can’t wait for the weekend to begin so I can curl up and read the rest! As a petit homage to Heather’s thoughtful gift I thought I’d share some of my favorite Avedon photographs of Paris…
Thank you Heather and bon weekend my sweet Neo-Trads!
