The Modest Bride

J.Crew has a slew of new bridal gowns out, but one in particular caught my eye and it’s this refreshingly modest Duchess Satin Noelle Gown.  It’s rare to find a gown these days with three-quarter sleeves and a high neck and I applaud them for mixing things up!  The gown was modeled after a vintage 1940′s dress and I think it would look terribly chic at a winter wedding.  What do you think, is this modest look timeless or outdated?  Did/would you wear sleeves in your wedding?

My wedding dress arrived (I only ordered it on Tuesday, bravo J.Crew!) and it fits perfectly!!!  I am absolutely, positively in love.  I didn’t realize until trying it on just now how similar the design is to the ivory gown Grace Kelly wears in To Catch a Thief.  Do you remember it?  I’m almost certain J.Crew’s design team must have had the iconic dress in mind when they created the Taryn.  I’ve always admired Kelly’s dress (it’s one of my all time favorite films) and couldn’t be more pleased with my pick.  Next up accessories and decorations!

Wedding dress, second guess…

Remember how excited I was to have found my wedding dress at J.Crew a few months back?  Well, I’ve changed my mind!  I still love and admire the original pick, but just haven’t been able to pull the trigger.  We’ll be moving come June and I don’t want to settle on a dress until I know where I’ll be wearing it.  I still want a small garden ceremony, but would love to it to take place in our new city (I’m currently rooting for Washington D.C.).  Anywho, I came across the dress above at Anthropologie last week and was instantly charmed.  Perhaps a simple, champagne tea length dress is the way to go?

The Dress!

I picked out my wedding dress!  It was so easy quick and easy, I’m still pinching myself.  The “solid silk chiffon Whitney” was the second dress I slipped on at the J.Crew bridal trunk show and it was THE ONE!  The gals at J.Crew were amazingly helpful, especially my sweet as can be “wedding specialist,” a fellow “Kate.”  She was wonderfully down to earth and brimming with great tailoring suggestions and such.  She totally understood my desire for low-key, casual wedding (we’re saving our pretty pennies for Buenos Aires!) and I think the dress will be perfect for our garden setting.  That’s right, we picked a venue too!  John and I will be exchanging our vows in a little community botanical garden we fell in love with in the old neighborhood.  It’s a little oasis tucked away on a quiet Manhattan street.  We can’t wait!
